Job description

The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) has started a selection process to incorporate a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences and/or Social Sciences into the Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) for the ICO Hospitalet work centre, located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona).

The candidate will carry out his/her functions within the JA-SAFE project (Joint Action on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention including Smoke and Aerosol Free Environments), whose main objective is to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, including cancer, and their risk factors, as well as to significantly reduce tobacco consumption and exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke throughout Europe. The ICO is the competent authority and leader of Work Package number five (WP 5). In addition, the ICO is the leader of other tasks and it collaborates in various tasks of other work packages, with different degrees of involvement.
 
Functions
The responsibilities of the job will include close collaboration with the principal investigator and the project manager of the project in the coordination of WP5, as well as collaboration in the rest of the tasks of other WPs, coordinated by other European institutions. Specifically, responsibilities include:
•    Collaborate in the different tasks of the WPs in which the UCT participates (search for documentary sources, its classification, preparation of repositories, preparation of reports, elaboration of instruments, among others).
•    Support the planning of internal and cross-cutting meetings with other WPs.
•    Support the preparation of internal documentation (agendas, minutes, reports, among others) and preparation of reports to the European Commission, JA portal/website, among others.
•    Support the management of events and travel.
•    Support the UCT work team in field-specific research tasks, including information collection (such as interviews, focus groups, sample collection, among others).
•    Collaborate with the team in the analysis of the resulting quantitative or qualitative data.
 
What do we offer?
•    Type of contract: initial of 1 year with the possibility of continuity up to 2 years.
•    Full working day (1,605 hours/year - 37.5 hours/week).
•    Probationary period: 1 month (according to agreement).
•    Work schedule: Flexible and with the possibility of combining face-to-face work with teleworking (from 1 year of seniority) and according to the needs of the unit.
•    The conditions of employment and remuneration will be regulated by employment contract and will be in accordance with the rules established in the ICO according to the collective labour agreement of acute care hospitals, primary care centres, social health centres and mental health centres, agreed with the Catalan Health Service (SISCAT). Professional group 4. Management and service staff.
•    Fixed Annual Remuneration: €38,215.80€ (approx) + Variable Annual Remuneration (DPO-Incentives from 6% to 12%).
•    Date of incorporation: 15/01/2026 (may vary depending on the signing date of the Grant Agreement).
•    Place of work: Catalan Institute of Oncology, Av. Granvia de l'Hospitalet 199-203 - 08908 l'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Development of the selection process
The selection process will be carried out in two different phases: assessment of the merits provided in the curriculum vitae and a personal interview.
The ICO may declare this call unfilled if, in its opinion, the candidate does not meet the conditions that the Institution deems necessary to occupy the position.
Only the merits that are provided in documents will be considered for the purposes of curricular assessment.
The ICO’s management reserves the right to carry out the tests it deems appropriate.
With the aim of guaranteeing transparency and objectivity in the selection process, the creation of an Evaluation Panel has been established, consisting of the Directorate for Staff Department, and the Head of the Tobacco Control Unit.
This evaluation panel will be responsible for reviewing the candidatures, conducting the relevant interviews and issuing a report with its assessments of the candidacies presented.

Requirements

•    Be in possession of (1) a Bachelor's / Bachelor's degree + Master's degree in a discipline of Health Sciences or Social Sciences (preferably Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Research or similar).
(1) Or documentary accreditation of equivalence to level 3 MECES of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education or EQF Level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework.
•    Accredit previous experience in the management of European and/or national research projects.
•    Accredit experience in Public Health.
•    Management of office automation at a high level (word, excel, etc.), documentation managers (Zotero, Mendeley), documentation review (Rayyan, Covidence, etc.), and basic statistics (R, SPSS, STATA).
•    Accredit a high level of English equivalent to C1 or higher.
•    Accredit a high level of Spanish equivalent to C1 or higher.
 
It will be valued
•    Experience in field research as an interviewer, field monitor, among others.
•    Experience in activities on tobacco control and prevention of cancer risk factors.
•    Experience in research centers and centers from the health sector.
•    Co-author of national and international publications.
•    Problem-solving skills, initiative, leadership, autonomy, and demonstrated teamwork capacity will be assets.
